Sketching/Pencil: Sketching Basics

When learning to draw with a graphite pencil, knowing the fundamentals is key. Once you gain a core understanding of pencil sketching you can further advance your skills and confidence as an artist. 

In this instructional video, Katie teaches you how to interpret color reference photos into grayscale tonal ranges and the basics of using different pencil lead and ways to apply them. She will show you step-by-step how to utilize different sketching methods to create dimension, shadows, and highlights, which you will then use to sketch a three-dimensional ball.
